Apostle Paul Said What?

July 2, 2011

“And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men. For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” – Apostle Paul, Acts 20:25-35,, NIV.

Prosperity Preachers Said What?

Do Preachers Preach That Money Grows On Trees?

On the 15/05/2011 I made a comment on Chris Rosebrough’s wall. I’ve edited it so you can read it more easily. Do you believe prosperity preachers believe that money grows on trees?

Chris Rosebrough critiqued a sermon by Paul de Jong. You can listen to Rosebrough critique Paul de Jong’s sermon  here:

Paul de Jong

Paul de Jong

In the sermon, de Jong’s said the following quote:

“One of the myths of money is that money grows on trees.” – Paul de Jong, Fighting For The Faith: 2:26:04,, 28/09/2011.

Chris Rosebrough did a solid job in critiquing de Jong’s sermon. However Rosebrough overlooked the above statement made by de Jong. It would appear that no one would believe that ‘money grows on trees’. Rosebrough simply responded with:

Chris Rosebrough

Chris Rosebrough

“I mean does anyone seriously believe that?” – Chris Rosebrough, Fighting For The Faith: 2:26:09,, 28/09/2011.

Well Rosebrough, there are those that seem to believe (and preach) that money indeed grows on trees. Those who believe this would be  the prosperity preaching crowd.

Don’t believe me? Let the preachers do the talking.

The following  quotes below are from John Avanzini:

“There will not be just one single seed of money harvested for each seed of money you plant. You will harvest multiplied money seeds for each money seed you sow.” – John Avanzini, 30 60 Hundredfold, pg. 28, 1989.

The Third Law of the Harvest: You Must Plant What You Expect to Harvest…

the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind… Genesis 1:12

Someone wisely said that the biggest fool in town is the one who fools himself. Believe it or not, people do fool themselves. It happens all the time. God warns us of the potential of this folly in the realm of sowing and reaping.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7

It is amazing that God would have to warn His people of such an obvious error! Yet He felt it necessary to tell those who sow not to fool themselves. This is such a simple truth that it seems as if it should not even have to be said.

Everyone knows apple seeds will always bring forth a harvest of apples, and peach seeds will always bring forth a harvest of peaches. Every seed always produces a harvest after its own kind. It has always been that way. It is that way today.” – John Avanzini, 30 60 Hundredfold, pg. 57, 1989.

“The kind of seed you sow always determines the kind of harvest you will reap. By some ingenious method, you may disguise an apple seed to look like a peach seed. But when it grows to full stature, it will bring forth an apple tree that bears apples, not peaches.

If you put a hundred-dollar bill in an envelope and mail it to your favorite television ministry, the one hundred dollars is the seed, not the envelope that conceals it. God will not be fooled and send you a harvest of envelopes. He will send you a harvest of hundred-dollar bills.” – John Avanzini, 30 60 Hundredfold, pg. 59, 1989.

“Carefully read our Lord’s words from Luke 6:38 again: Give, and it shall be given unto you… Notice the word it. It represents whatever you have given.

Let me paraphrase. Give apples, and it (apples) will be given unto you. Give peaches, and it (peaches) will be given unto you. Give afghans, and it (afghans) will be given unto you. Give meals, and it (meals) will be given unto you. Now read this very carefully. Give money, and it (money) will be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men pour money into your bosom. For with the same measure that you give money, it (money) will be given back to you!– John Avanzini, 30 60 Hundredfold, pg. 62, 1989.

Here are some quotes from Brian Houston, head of Hillsong.

“In terms of finance, the principles of sowing and reaping is seen where people invest their money.” – Brian Houston, You Need More Money, 1999, pg. 62.

“By deciding to live in a certain realm, you live according to its rules. However by sowing to the works of God here on earth, you can reap a hundredfold return (both here and in eternity), because you are operating in a higher realm.” – Brian Houston, You Need More Money, 1999, pg. 64.

Phil Pringle

Phil Pringle

Below are some quotes from Phil Pringle, head of the C3 (Christian City Church) Movement.

Give, and it shall be given to you. -Luke 6:38

In the above Scripture, the “it” given to us is what we give. What we give is what will return to us. This is obvious. Take the example of a seed: When we plant an apple seed, we don’t expect to harvest peaches. If we plant corn seeds, then corn is what we will harvest. It becomes important, then, to understand what we want to harvest. The kind of harvest you want determines the seed you need to sow… If we want a harvest of money, then we need to sow money. Whatever we sow we will reap.” – Phil Pringle, Keys To Financial Excellence, pg 90-91.

“When we are generous in attitude and action, “seed faith” is produced. Once a seed is planted, we have faith it will resurface from the ground as a plant. The very act of giving is the same: Giving releases faith that you will receive in return, just as you planted.” – Phil Pringle, You The Leader, pg 38-39.

“Secondly, WHAT you sow is what you will reap. Jesus said:

“Give and IT will be given to you.”

About eighteen years ago I gave away my only guitar to a person who really wanted one. Ever since then we have been given guitars! At least once a year. So we just keep getting and giving guitars. In 1976 I gave away a suit to someone who really liked it. Ever since that time I haven’t had to purchase one of the many suits I’ve needed over the years. It’s the most astonishing thing I’ve seen. This may not happen exactly like that in every area. But when you give with faith and cheerfulness in your heart you are sowing seed.” – Phil Pringle, Faith, 2001, pg 154-155.

“From one seed, we have unleashed a “guitar tree” that keeps on yielding, even through to our children… When we sow low quality seed, we reap a low quality harvest. If you want to reap the best, sow your best.” – Phil Pringle, Keys To financial Excellence, 2003, pg 98.

“Ever since then, I used to get guitars sent to me in the mail. I didn’t know why! They didn’t know why they were sending them. I didn’t know why it was coming. But I PLANTED a guitar seed! And now I’ve got a guitar tree in my life. And that guitar tree keeps on bearing fruit for my kids. I guarantee my grandchildren will have guitars given to them because I just planted it into my heritage.

If you want to plant carrots, you plant carrot seeds, right? If you want guitars, you plant guitar seeds. You want finances- guess what you plant? You don’t gout and go, ‘Oh! I gave the church a lot of time!’. I guarantee you’ll get a lot of time on your hands. What you sow is what you reap. Jesus said it as clear as a bell. And it’s just in the natural world as well. He provides seeds for a sower.” – Phil Pringle, Our Vision: 67:42-68:35,, C3 Oxford Falls, 12/06/2011.

Apostle Peter Said What?

June 17, 2011

We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men(for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)—if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority.

Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood! They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness. But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—a beast without speech—who spoke with a man’s voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.” – Apostle Peter, Holy Scripture – 2Peter 1:16-2:22, NIV.
